Applied associate’s degree holders in career preparatory, vocational, and technical programs have found it increasingly necessary to earn a bachelor’s degree in order to improve their career prospects, move into management positions, or start businesses of their own. Currently, few colleges offer undergraduate degree programs that accept credits acquired by AAS degree holders.

The Bachelor of Professional Studies in Applied Management and Entrepreneurship online degree program provides applied associate’s degree holders with a pathway to earn a bachelor’s degree while preparing them with the business insight to complement the technical skills and knowledge obtained from their AAS and professional experiences.

Additionally, the CUNY School of Professional Studies gives AAS degree holders the opportunity to transfer and apply up to 45 of their technical and professional course credits toward the BPS in Applied Management and Entrepreneurship, which reduces students’ time and cost of earning a bachelor’s degree.

Career Prospects

The BPS in Applied Management and Entrepreneurship online degree program prepares students for managerial or supervisory positions within their areas of expertise in a wide variety of fields such as information systems, accounting, engineering, tourism, healthcare, human services, graphic design, which benefit from knowledge and skills sets provided by a business education.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there are currently more than 2.4 million jobs for general and operations managers, who plan, direct or coordinate operations in public or private sector organizations.

The BPS program includes core and elective courses such as Finance, Accounting, Economics, Marketing, Management, and Human Resources.

Students of the program can also elect to specialize in entrepreneurship, paving the way for them to identify and conceptualize unique business ideas for an organization or their own enterprises.

Articulation Agreements

Articulation agreements are formal agreements between CUNY School of Professional Studies, (CUNY SPS) and two-year colleges and universities, allowing students to transfer the maximum number of credits with ease to our BPS program from institutions with which we have an established transfer process in place.

Applicants must possess an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in any major from an accredited institution with a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. If the AAS has not yet been earned, the completion of 45 credits towards the AAS will be required. Applicants need to demonstrate basic proficiency in reading, writing, and math.

There are over 73 million people under the age of 24 living in the United States who face multiple inherited crises with defiance and creativity. In the US, there are approximately 2.5 million youth workers and counting. This continued growth confirms the urgent need for credentialed, professional development opportunities for those who are partnering with young people to co-create a better future. The BA in Youth Studies degree program helps fill this critical need by ensuring that staff have the skills, knowledge, competencies, and commitments to ally with young people. The degree provides the concrete skill development needed to work with this age group while infusing an approach rooted in critical youth studies and a commitment to a social justice orientation.

The degree offers multiple paths towards successful completion of the program such as Credit for Prior Learning, which acknowledges a candidate's experience in the world of work. The program also offers multiple opportunities to acquire and stack credentials in the field through agencies such as the Department of Youth and Community Development, the Administration for Children's Services, and the New York State Network for Youth Success.

Mode of Learning

The BA in Youth Studies offers students the flexibility of completing their degree while working full-time, part-time, or at a distance, while offering genuine connection to professors and colleagues,all from the comfort of your own home! Meeting the needs of today’s student, each course has a mix of asynchronous and synchronous components. In a 15 week course, students will meet 6-7 times in a synchronous (live virtual meeting) from 6:15-9:15 pm EST via zoom. All other weeks, coursework is to be completed independently.

The Youth Studies program is excited to introduce a new online asynchronous pathway, providing students with the opportunity to attain their degree entirely online, starting with incoming students in the Fall 2024 semester. Furthermore, we are committed to maintaining our online synchronous option, catering to students who prefer real-time virtual classroom interactions with their professors and peers.

Nurse informatics specialists play a crucial role in all healthcare environments as they are charged with ensuring that the best available scientific data and technology are available to design and implement plans for patient care. Informatics nurses use, integrate, and analyze technology to make changes in nursing practice, advance health outcomes, and facilitate research and education.

The RN to BS-MS in Nursing Informatics online degree program guides nursing professionals to assess institutional data needs, manage data effectively, and improve patient care quality. In addition to taking courses focused on quality and safety to enhance patient outcomes, students enroll in a six-credit practicum to gain experience with compliance and accreditation mandates, staff education, and the design of new data management systems.

Dual Degree

The RN to BS-MS in Nursing Informatics is a dual degree program that provides a seamless progression (and “fast track”) from the BS to MS programs. The program’s overlapping coursework allows students to complete both degrees within an integrated framework and in less time than each degree completed on its own.

Career Prospects

The American Medical Informatics Association estimated that up to 70,000 health informatics specialists will be needed across the healthcare system over the next several years.

Graduates of the RN to BS-MS in Nursing Informatics program are prepared for a number of employment opportunities such as Clinical Informatics Nurse, Informatics Nurse Specialist, Director of Clinical Informatics, and RN Clinical Applications Coordinator and potentially eligible to take the American Nurses Credentialing Center Informatics Nursing Certification Examination.

Credit for non-collegiate learning is a credit recommendation for college-level learning acquired outside of a college or university.

The American Council on Education (ACE) and the National College Credit Recommendation Service(NCCR) have evaluated college-level training programs, credentials, and licenses from the military, government, and the public sector that may be eligible for college credit at the CUNY School of Professional Studies.

CUNY SPS also awards credit for currently reviewed licenses and certifications in the fields of Health Information Management, IT, Project Management, Real Estate, Business, and Emergency Medical Technician.

To qualify for admission to the RN to BS-MS in Nursing Informatics program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Associate’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution with a GPA of 3.0 or above out of a 4.0
Unencumbered nursing license and a current registration
Admission essay highlighting education and career achievement, including specific examples of problem-solving while working in the practice setting, leadership experience at the bedside or in other settings, and professional and community awards
Submit two letters of recommendation from each, a nurse educator/nurse faculty and Supervisor/Manager
A description of an evidence-based practice project completed in nursing school or in the practice setting

Residency Requirement*
In order to enroll in the RN to BS in Nursing program, students must provide documentation of one of the following categories:

U.S. Citizenship
Permanent Residency
Granted asylum, refugee status, temporary protected status, withholding of removal, deferred enforced departure, deferred action status by the U.S. Government, deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) or permanently residing in the United States under color of law (PRUCOL)

The Liberal Studies program is CUNY's first online BA in the liberal arts and sciences. Unlike most majors, which emphasize the mastery of a single discipline, Liberal Studies affirms the intellectual and professional value of learning to think across conventional disciplinary lines. Liberal Studies majors take classes in a variety of subjects, including English, history, philosophy, mathematics, and the social and natural sciences. Liberal Studies is also a "Z-Degree", meaning that the program may be completed without purchasing a single textbook. Recognizing that returning adults bring skills and knowledge acquired through prior college study or through work and life experience, the Liberal Studies degree also has ample space for transfer credit and credit for prior learning.

Liberal Studies coursework provides opportunities to learn through inquiry and engagement with a range of humanistic perspectives. Liberal Studies students also master skills consistently valued by employers: research, writing, collaboration, ethical awareness, critical thinking, and quantitative analysis. Our array of foundational and elective courses is anchored by a Liberal Studies Proseminar, which introduces the major, and a Capstone experience, in both of which students utilize an ePortfolio to showcase and reflect on learning obtained in the program. The Capstone also features a major research project on a topic of the student’s choosing. As they progress toward graduation, students also identify a core area of study: Literature and Communication, History and Global Studies, or Ethics and Quantitative Reasoning.

The fully online program provides flexibility, and the curriculum offers a broad and efficient pathway to degree completion. Graduates will leave the program having engaged with diverse viewpoints and bodies of knowledge; gained critically informed perspectives on pressing global and local debates; and executed independent and collaborative projects to share with prospective employers and graduate schools.

Career Prospects

The BA in Liberal Studies equips students for careers in any number of fields, including education, law, communications and marketing, and the government and non-profit sectors. The degree also provides a strong foundation for further graduate study.

Just as important, our program deliberately emphasizes sought-after competencies that enhance employee capacities across the workplace spectrum: the ability to think critically, work collaboratively, read and research carefully, communicate clearly, and write persuasively. By requiring our majors to develop and continually hone these skills, the Liberal Studies program empowers students to be the agents of their professional futures.

Nurse educators play a crucial role in helping nurses gain the expertise needed to meet the challenges of the evolving healthcare system. Their presence also ensures that our nation's nursing schools are always at maximum student capacity. According to AACN’s Special Survey on Vacant Faculty Positions for Academic Year 2023-2024, nearly two-thirds of schools reported a shortage of full-time faculty members. Additionally, hospital and medical centers have identified a need for more nurse educators to enhance the level of instruction to nursing students, new nurses, and ongoing needs for professional staff development.

The RN to BS-MS in Nursing Education online degree helps address these challenges by increasing the number of nurse educators and ultimately paving the way for an adequate supply of nurses to ensure that patients have access to affordable, high quality healthcare.

The program prepares nurses to develop curricula focused on our changing healthcare systems, adapt and teach education strategies for diverse learners, develop clinical and classroom evaluation strategies, and adopt effective evidence-based practices in academic as well as clinical healthcare settings.

Dual Degree

The RN to BS-MS in Nursing Education is a dual degree program that provides a seamless progression (and “fast track”) from the BS to MS programs. The program’s overlapping coursework allows students to complete both degrees within an integrated framework and in less time than each degree completed on its own.

Career Scope and Academic Prospects

Graduates of the RN to BS-MS in Nursing Education degree are qualified to serve as educators in numerous institutions ranging from community colleges to major universities, as well as in academic health centers and community-based health facilities. Graduates of the program can also pursue doctoral education in Nursing Education, Nursing Science, and Nursing Research.

Completion Rates

CUNY SPS RN-BS benchmark for program completion rates:

75% of students will complete the RN- BS program within five years. Using CCNE guidelines for calculating these rates, the five-year completion rates are:

2019-2024 = 94%
2018-2023 = 96%
2017-2022 = 96%

Job Placement Statistics

Undergraduate program outcome: 80% of RN-BS alumni will report employment as a RN within twelve months.

2023 = 89%
2022 = 92%
2021 = 78%

Accreditation

The RN to BS-MS in Nursing Education at CUNY School of Professional Studies (CUNY SPS) is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

This program is registered with the New York State Education Department.

Prior Learning Assessment

Credit for non-collegiate learning is a credit recommendation for college-level learning acquired outside of a college or university.

The American Council on Education (ACE) and the National College Credit Recommendation Service (NCCR) have evaluated college-level training programs, credentials, and licenses from the military, government, and the public sector that may be eligible for college credit at the CUNY School of Professional Studies.

To qualify for admission to the RN to BS-MS in Nursing Education program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Associate’s degree in nursing from an accredited institution with a GPA of 3.0 or above out of a 4.0
Unencumbered nursing license and a current registration
Admission essay highlighting education and career achievement, including specific examples of problem-solving while working in the practice setting, leadership experience at the bedside or in other settings, and professional and community awards
Submit two letters of recommendation from each, a nurse educator/nurse faculty and supervisor/manager
A description of an evidence-based practice project completed in nursing school or in the practice setting
Resume

Residency Requirement*
In order to enroll in the RN to BS in Nursing program, students must provide documentation of one of the following categories:

U.S. Citizenship
Permanent Residency
Granted asylum, refugee status, temporary protected status, withholding of removal, deferred enforced departure, deferred action status by the U.S. Government, deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) or permanently residing in the United States under color of law (PRUCOL)

*International students may enroll in fully online degree programs. However, our online programs do not qualify for student visas.

Across the nation, nurses have been encouraged to develop the knowledge, leadership abilities, and interpersonal skills beyond what is learned at the bachelor’s degree level to improve the healthcare system. The Institute of Medicine’s Future of Nursing report recommends that future nurses gain proficiency in competencies such as team leadership, systems thinking, decision-making, and quality improvement.

The RN to BS-MS in Nursing Organizational Leadership online degree prepares nurses to be able to contribute to the health, education, and social structure of communities by assuming positions of leadership. The program creates a landscape for nurses to promote innovative change and quality outcomes, translate evidence-based research into practice, build collaborative interprofessional healthcare teams to coordinate care, and employ advocacy strategies to influence healthcare policy across the healthcare spectrum.
